How long can I stay in Mexico with a U.S. or Canadian passport?

If you enter Mexico with a US or Canadian passport for tourism, you can stay for up to 180 days on a tourist permit (FMM). However, the actual length of stay granted is at the discretion of the immigration officer at the point of entry. They may give you fewer than 180 days, depending on your travel plans or other factors. Make sure to keep your FMM (or the printed ticket from the electronic kiosk) safe, as you’ll need it when you leave Mexico.  Failure to comply could result in you needing to go to a local bank to pay a fine prior to being able to depart.
