What are the best beaches in Puerto Vallarta?
Some of the best beaches for swimming include Playa Los Muertos in the Romantic Zone, which is the most popular and easily accessible. The waves can sometimes pick up in the afternoon, but it’s generally a good spot for a dip. Playa Gemelas, located south of the city, is known for its clear turquoise water and is another excellent option, though the waves can occasionally be stronger. Playa Mismaloya is a scenic beach with calm waters, made famous as the filming location of The Night of the Iguana. It’s also a great spot for snorkeling and wildlife spotting. Conchas Chinas Beach, just south of Los Muertos, features small coves with natural pools, making it a peaceful place to swim and wade in shallow water. Boca de Tomatlán, a small fishing village, includes Boca Beach with calm waters and serves as a launching point for boat taxis to more secluded beaches like Yelapa and Las Animas.
While many beaches are safe for swimming, some have stronger waves or currents, especially during the rainy season from June to October. Playa Punta Negra is a gorgeous beach, but its waves can sometimes be quite strong. Playa de Oro in the Hotel Zone is popular among locals, but the waves can be high at times.
Other popular beaches include Playa Camarones and Playa Olas Atlas.
