Puerto Vallarta’s Angeloo Wins La Voz de Zapopan and Takes the Big Stage
Puerto Vallarta’s rising star, Angel Gerardo Covarrubias Cabrera, known to audiences as Angeloo, has once again proven that dreams really do come true. After months of preparation, dedication, and stunning performances, the 12-year-old singer took home first place in La Voz de las Niñas y los Niños de Zapopan 2025—a prestigious competition showcasing the best young talent from across Jalisco.
For Angeloo, who represented Puerto Vallarta with pride, the moment his name was called was one he’ll never forget. “I felt really happy and proud of myself for what I had accomplished,” he says. His smile and energy after the announcement mirrored the joy of his supporters, including his father and biggest fan, Oscar Corral, who has stood beside him every step of the way.
A Journey That Began with a Dream
Winning La Voz de Zapopan is the culmination of years of determination and love for music that began when Angeloo was just five years old. What started as a simple curiosity sparked by a video game evolved into a true artistic calling. Over time, he taught himself to sing in multiple languages, developed his stage presence by performing on buses with his father, and went on to impress local audiences in Puerto Vallarta at Incanto, La Catrina Cantina, and Nacho Daddy.
In 2024, he gained widespread attention after winning the So You Think You Can Rise? competition. That same passion carried him through La Voz de Zapopan, where he stood out among hundreds of young singers across Jalisco for his vocal power, control, and emotional connection to every song.
The Voice of the Girls and Boys of Zapopan
La Voz de las Niñas y los Niños de Zapopan (The Voice of the Girls and Boys of Zapopan) is organized by the Zapopan Government through its Department of Culture. It was created to spotlight emerging talent from all 125 municipalities of Jalisco, giving young artists professional opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach.
In its first two editions, more than 6,000 participants registered. This year, the competition once again brought together the best and brightest voices across the state. For the winners, prizes include a professionally produced music video, the recording of original songs, singing lessons, and appearances on television programs—all designed to nurture long-term artistic growth.

A Defining Moment
When the announcement finally came, the weight of months of hard work, long rehearsals, and fearless performances hit all at once. “I felt really happy and proud of myself for what I had accomplished,” Angeloo recalls. “It was such a special moment because I worked so hard, and I took a big risk in the beginning singing opera in a competition that mostly focuses on Spanish music. But it paid off.”
That risk—performing The Magic Flute by Mozart in his early audition—helped set him apart. His versatility, combined with a mature vocal style that belies his age, made him one of the standout performers throughout the competition.
Beyond technical skill, Angeloo’s genuine passion for music shines through every note. “I discovered some high notes that I didn’t even know I could reach,” he says, reflecting on what he learned about himself during the process. “The competition helped me grow and showed me how much I can really do when I give it my all.”
New Opportunities Ahead
Winning La Voz de Zapopan has opened new doors for the young artist, both in recognition and performance opportunities. “It has really helped me in being more recognized in Zapopan,” he explains. “And it’ll help me even more because on October 12 I’ll be performing at the Benito Juárez Auditorium with the winners from past editions. We’ll be opening for Joss Favela, which is incredible!”
The event will take place during Fiestas de Octubre, one of the region’s largest celebrations, and Angeloo will perform in front of more than 10,000 people—his biggest audience to date.
“It makes me feel really happy, and I know that this is a serious moment in my life,” he says. “This will be the biggest concert I’ve ever given yet. I’m really excited but also focused, because it’s such an important opportunity.”

A Glimpse of What’s to Come
When asked what the audience can expect from his performance, Angeloo answers with a sparkle in his eye: “Magic and energy—something different!”
That promise reflects his musical personality perfectly. Known for blending styles that range from opera to pop, R&B, and Latin music, Angeloo brings an authenticity and versatility that audiences instantly connect with. His confidence has grown alongside his vocal range, and his stage presence continues to evolve with each show.
To prepare for the upcoming concert, he’s focusing on both the mental and musical aspects of performance. “I’m listening to the songs I’ll be singing and staying focused,” he says. “It’s about practicing, but also about staying calm and enjoying the moment.”
A Father and Son Dream Team
As always, Angeloo won’t be facing this milestone alone. Standing beside him—on the road, backstage, and every moment in between—is his father, Oscar Corral, his number-one fan and biggest supporter. The two share a bond that has been at the heart of Angeloo’s journey since the very beginning.
Their story is one of teamwork, perseverance, and mutual belief. From singing together on buses in Puerto Vallarta to traveling to Guadalajara for auditions, Oscar has helped nurture Angeloo’s dream at every stage. “He’s been with me through everything,” Angeloo says proudly. “I couldn’t have done this without him.”

The Future Looks Bright
Winning La Voz de Zapopan is only the beginning for this talented young singer. With new doors opening, Angeloo plans to continue recording music, growing as a performer, and representing Puerto Vallarta on larger stages. His debut single, Superstar, is already available on major streaming platforms, and he has plans to expand his musical catalog with a blend of covers and original songs.
He also continues to perform locally—fans can catch him every Wednesday at 8 p.m. at La Catrina Cantina in Puerto Vallarta, where he delivers powerful live performances that blend passion, skill, and personality in equal measure.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Angeloo’s success story is more than a personal achievement—it’s a reminder that with dedication, courage, and community support, young artists from smaller cities can shine on the biggest stages. His journey from bus performances to winning a state-level competition serves as an inspiration to kids across Jalisco who dream of following their passion.
For now, though, all eyes are on October 12, when the lights at the Benito Juárez Auditorium will rise, the crowd of more than 10,000 will cheer, and Puerto Vallarta’s own Angeloo will once again step into the spotlight—ready to make magic.
