Pass the Pasta and Raise Your Glass
The end of another week and month over these next couple of days; how was your Thanksgiving? Patrice and I talked about indulging in turkey with all the attendant goodies, but slid into some baked spaghetti from the air fryer instead. We get to keep our vegetarian badges for one more day!
The cheesy carb load was enough to get us over the two swinging bridges to Coco Cabaret for the Pink Tribute – Raise Your Glass – starring Eva Jimenez.
I was at the Pink debut this season and really wanted Patrice to see it. It is lovely to watch, snappy tunes throughout, terrific dancers, loads of acrobatics, and adding Woody Fox to the mix was brilliant. His enormous strength steadied Eva – a gentle touch of his hand to her foot stopped her spinning instantly. She was always aware of how far away the stage floor and safety were from her. I loved it too, that in the tradition of classic European male ballet dancers, Woody made himself as scarce as someone his size can, and let Eva shine.
As a performer and as Pink, Eva has grown enormously in her profession, and the construction of Coco Cabaret has undoubtedly helped her expand her physicality on the stage, something she could not do at The Palm Cabaret, where her Pink Tribute originated. She is also producing shows in collaboration with her friend and star of the Christina Aguilera Tribute, Losanna Diaz Avila. Together, this formidable team – LOVA – also produced Eva’s brother Mau‘s tribute to Bruce Springsteen. (Patrice and I are going to see it again tomorrow at The Palm!)
And kudos to Josh Breau for getting Eva’s hair perfectly blond and styled yet again!
I have a root canal scheduled for noon today – lucky me, no? I plan to take the rest of the day off to rest after that and before our 8 pm laugh fest at Arte Vallarta Theatre up the hill at the top of Olas Altas. Karen Parker and Diana Frances star in Leave it to Cleavage – the Breast is Yet to Come. The premise seems to be that these two stuck-in-the-50s housewives have burst out of their time warp and are looking for ways to break into the dating scene here in Puerto Vallarta. Hmmm, I shall pay strict attention as all of us straight and single women know there are precisely zero numbers of available straight men to date in this town. (Could someone please start a Facebook page?) Perhaps Karen and Diana are bringing some tricks learned in Canada that they will share with the audience.
See you back here on Monday morning, December 01, when the countdown to the final Vallarta Mirror and Rearview Mirror begins in earnest. Over the weekend, you can find us at Mau’s Tribute to Bruce Springsteen, along with the kick-ass Olas Altas Street Band at The Palm tomorrow at 5 pm and on Sunday, the gorgeous Adele Tribute, also at The Palm at the same time, starring Gloria Fiona, being backed by half of the musicians in Vallarta! It’s a stage full of talent.
