A Telenovela Parody Comes to Life

Puerto Vallarta’s cabaret scene is about to get even more exciting with the premiere of Women… Real Life Cases, a hilarious and captivating show that brings to life three iconic female characters grappling with the consequences of black magic. This parody of telenovelas is set to charm audiences with its mix of drama, comedy, and musical performances, all wrapped up in the outrageous world of Mexican pop culture.

Written by Edgar Sánchez, Vilchis Joya, and Alberto Cuevas, Women… Real Life Cases is a collaborative production that cleverly weaves together elements of traditional telenovelas with modern-day satire. The show is a unique blend of drag, lip-sync performances, and cabaret-style theater, making it a must-see for anyone who enjoys a good laugh and a bit of drama. Note: The show is in Spanish.

When asked if people who do not speak Spanish would enjoy the show, Edgar Sánchez thoughtfully explained, “For art, there should be no language barriers. When someone presents a clown show, you understand it perfectly even if they don’t speak, and you enjoy and are moved by it… well, in this show, you’ll also enjoy and have fun, because drag is also music and performance. It’s always a good idea to explore and attend any type of artistic expression. In this case, it’s a great opportunity to learn more about Mexican cabaret.”

The plot of Women… Real Life Cases follows the cursed lives of Miss Bibi and Verónica Castro, who find themselves ensnared by the sinister forces of “macumba” (black magic). Desperate to break free from the curse, they turn to Mrs. León’s talk show for help. The audience is taken on a wild ride as these characters navigate the chaotic world of curses, spells, and outrageous drama. Will Mrs. León be able to solve the mystery of the macumbas and free the divas from their supernatural troubles?

Miss Bibi, one of the main characters, is portrayed by the multi-talented Edgar Sánchez. With over 25 years of experience as a producer, television host, and cabaret theater actor, Sánchez brings a wealth of experience to this role. Known for his work with entertainment figures like La Supermana, La Prohibida, Oswaldo Calderón, and Luis Miguelez, Sánchez is no stranger to the Act2PV Theater stage. He has previously produced hit shows like The Cher Show, Madonnarama, and Swan Lake.

The character of Verónica Castro, embodying the essence of a true Mexican telenovela diva, is brought to life by singer and entertainer Alberto Cuevas, also known as “El Diamante.” Cuevas has been captivating audiences with traditional Mexican music for over 18 years, performing nationally and making appearances on La Voz. His singles “Te Amare” and “Ataud” are available on various music streaming platforms, showcasing his vocal talent and deep connection to his musical roots.

The iconic role of Laura León, a famous Mexican singer and soap opera actress, is portrayed by the talented Vilchis Joya. Joya, a local actor, make-up artist, and drag performer, gained fame in 2017 when he starred in the successful Vallarta web soap opera Dulce Vengeance. His portrayal of Laura León adds a unique layer of authenticity and flair to the production.
