Artist Spotlight: Xochiquetzal Dúo 🎤 🎹
Inspired by the goddess of love, pleasure, and beauty from Mexican culture, Xochiquetzal Dúo channels the essence of Latin American music through an intimate, bohemian format. With their eclectic repertoire, they weave together the richness of Latin sounds with rock, pop, and international influences, creating musical experiences that are both captivating and soulful. The duo consists of Isabel Zuleta on vocals and piano and Jacob Ordoñez on guitar, blending their talents to share unique interpretations of beloved songs on both public and private stages.
Jacob Ordoñez, a Mexican guitarist now based in Puerto Vallarta, brings a wealth of classical training and a passion for musical exploration to the duo. A graduate of UNAM, Jacob honed his skills as a classical guitarist, performing in competitions and recitals throughout Mexico. His artistic curiosity led him to expand beyond classical genres, finding inspiration in Puerto Vallarta’s vibrant cultural scene. Jacob is also an experienced educator, teaching young students and nurturing future musicians in the community. Currently developing his vocal abilities under the mentorship of David Sabella, Jacob continues to push his creative boundaries.
Isabel Zuleta, originally from Colombia, complements the duo with her dynamic skills as a singer-songwriter and pianist. Isabel’s classical foundation evolved into a passion for various genres, including jazz, reggae, and Latin American folk. She released her debut EP, Abrazando el Caos (2017), featuring collaborations with renowned musicians like Grammy Award-winning drummer Antonio Sanchez. Based in Puerto Vallarta since 2019, Isabel has worked with prominent productions, such as Diana Villamonte’s Diana Ross tribute at Act2PV Theater and Rhythms of the Night. A dedicated educator, Isabel continues to develop her teaching expertise through musical psychopedagogy studies and vocal training with David Sabella.
Together, Xochiquetzal Dúo celebrates the diversity and depth of music, blending their backgrounds to create a signature sound. Whether on intimate stages or at lively events, the duo brings joy and authenticity to every performance, paying homage to Latin American culture while embracing the universal language of music.
