All Things Merry and Bright
Welcome back! To my uncluttered, fabulous life and Happy New Year. It seems to have been a long ‘holiday season’; I am relieved to start saying hello or whatever without prefacing it with Happy or Merry, okay? But this one is lovely – GOOD Morning!
The last Gay+Mixer of 2025 was held at the new Cheeky Pool Club last Tuesday. The place is small, comfortable, and deceptively hidden away. A long corridor leads to the pool in a private courtyard, where clothing is optional. When Patrice was here, we had a tour by co-owner Erick, so I know there is a swimming pool on the premises. Could not get near it the night of the Mixer, with some 300 hot guys taking up space. I met Brian, a co-owner of Cheeky, who introduced himself and kindly offered to get me drinks and snacks so I wouldn’t have to stand in line, but I had to get over to Nacho Daddy for Open Mic. Cheeky Pool Club is open from noon to 7 pm, and if I were a gay man (next life!) I would be there every day…just sayin.’ Next Gay+Mixer brought to you by Out & About Puerto Vallarta magazine is Tuesday, January 06, at Sanctuary Bar. I will catch up more with publisher Jerry Jones then!
Richard Lucas, the alter ego of Gouda Gabor, hosted Open Mic at Nacho Daddy. Gouda’s new show opens Monday, the 5th, don’t miss that! There was a table full of Act2 singers with Michael Ferreri, Musical Director and virtuoso pianist, holding court and there to accompany Robert Ryan, John Carden, and Tony Oakley, who have shows coming up at Casa Karma and the Red Room tomorrow night, respectively. Check VallartaCalendar.com for dates and ticket information.
Angeloo debuted another hit song – ”Sinful Passion,” in Russian – by the Kazakh sensation, Dimash Qudaibergen, whose vocal range starts here and ascends somewhere into the stratosphere. Angeloo treads where no regular singer can go and easily hits those lofty notes. Angel’s dad, Oscar, says they are working on a Dimash tribute show. Stay tuned for dates and places – it will be sensational!
After a couple of hours of siesta, I walked the four blocks from my house to the Malecon around 11 pm on New Year’s Eve. I thought I would sit on the edge of that venerable walkway, as I have done before, but years ago, look at the boats all lined up across the waterfront, and watch the fireworks. HAH! I could not get near the edge of the Malecon for the sea of people. From what I could see, bunches of people had been there for hours with coolers, camp chairs, food, and lots of beverages! Other families just claimed spots by sitting down. The flood of humanity flowed around them, the family dog and the youngster’s strollers like lava down a hillside. Even though the non-view kinda sucked, I was so delighted to be in the thick of all things Vallartense to welcome 2026, with a heart full of gratitude and deafening, joyous noise, From Here.
