Artist Spotlight: Alonso Sax 🎹 💃


Alonso Sax is a talented saxophonist and classically trained dancer, born in Bajos de Chila, Oaxaca, Mexico. A graduate of the prestigious Monterrey School of Music and Dance, Alonso Sax’s artistic journey has led him to master both music and dance, blending them into a unique and captivating performance style.

In 2014, Alonso Sax earned second place at the renowned Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) in New York, a global competition that recognizes young talent in dance. This achievement opened doors to international recognition, as YAGP is a respected non-profit organization that nurtures world-class dancers from diverse backgrounds through scholarships, performance, and education opportunities.

Alonso Sax spent seven years performing with Rhythms of the Night, an acclaimed show in Puerto Vallarta, where he worked under the direction of Cirque du Soleil legends Gilles Ste-Croix and Debra Linne Brown. This experience refined his abilities in both dance and theatrical performance, deepening his creative expression.

Currently, Alonso Sax is the director of Nahuales, a Mystical Night, a show that weaves together music, movement, and Mexican mysticism to create an immersive cultural experience. He also performs the Alfonso Sax Show at La Catrina Cantina, where his mesmerizing saxophone music is accompanied by dazzling acrobatic feats. This show blends music and acrobatics into a spectacular sensory experience, keeping audiences on the edge of their seats.

Having lived in Puerto Vallarta for nine years, Alonso Sax continues to be an integral part of the city’s vibrant arts scene, delighting audiences with his saxophone performances and his dedication to sharing the richness of Mexican culture through the performing arts.
