Artist Spotlight: Andrew Sands 🎤
Andrew Sands is a local performing artist from Fort Worth, Texas. At 10 years old, he began acting and vocal lessons at the local theatre Casa Mañana, and also performed in his first professional production, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever in 1994.
Over the years, he has been a part of many performing groups such as Los Bastardos, the Fort Worth based Rocky Horror Picture Show shadow cast for 5 years, as well as the Scarborough Academy of Performing Arts as a cast member of the renaissance faire for several years. It was in this time period he also began creating costumes for his various activities and learning the art of costume design.
Through high school and college, he studied musical theatre and classical performance with the occasional foray into the Opera world. Performances included All in the Timing, The Happy Dagger, Pirates of Penzance, Oklahoma!, Hello, Dolly!, Requiem and South Pacific. In addition, working closely for many years with mentor turned friend Colleen Mallette. After 7 years in college, he decided to take a break from performing and step into the ¨real world¨ of office work.
On a vacation in 2017 to Puerto Vallarta, Andrew was singing karaoke at Kooky, where he was approached by a member of Los Tenores and was asked to audition for a spot that was opening in their trio. This interaction changed the trajectory of his life, allowing him to move full time into the performance world of Puerto Vallarta. Since arriving, Andrew has been involved in many productions in town, including: Little Shop of Horrors, Cinderella, Hair, Avenue Q, The Foreigner, I Got Rhythm, Rocky Horror Show, 007: A Black-Tie Affair, and The Greatest Show on Earth.
Andrew feels a renewed sense of drive for the coming performance season, as he branches out to perform more solo and cabaret work in addition to several larger musical productions.
