Arte Puro – Pure Art
Luna Rumba Productions brought together two of Banderas Bay’s finest musicians a couple of nights ago at Casita & Garden, and the concert sold out immediately after the announcement.
Geo Uhrich, on violin, and Eduardo ”Lalo” Leon, guitarist, were mesmerizing, stirring deeply embedded emotions in all of us, yearnings for a primitive gypsy, nomadic life.
For two hours, Geo and Lalo played non-stop, and as far as the audience was concerned, they could have played for another two. Impossible, physically, however, to maintain that level of intensity. My fingers and arms grew weary just watching their fingers fly.
The two had fun, inviting their friend (and ours!) Kim Kuzma to join them onstage and sing. Kim’s association with Lalo goes back years, long before her current real estate career. Their chemistry is still apparent.
Geo spends seven months of the year cruising the Mediterranean with his long-time love, Fernanda, on their sailboat. Geo studied last summer with a Turkish violinist and has incorporated some exotic Asian rhythms into his latest compositions. The set list is eclectic to say the least! From fellow violinist (RIP) Willy Royal’s wild and wonderfully free-spirited writings to the Gipsy Kings to Prince’s Purple Rain, which was Arte Puro’s encore to end the night, finally.
Geo’s World of Music takes place every Thursday at 8 pm at Bar Frida’s. Tonight is sold out (of course), but there are still some seats available for next Thursday. His premiere at Bar Frida’s was full of joyous music and small stories here and there about his and Fernanda’s travels around the eastern Mediterranean. And the food is wonderful, and you must try owner Tom Finley’s special house tequila; a fine taste. He buys the entire production of a small farm in Tequila, specially bottled for Bar Frida. And Tom’s birthday is coming up soon; I will keep you informed!
If you don’t have your tickets yet for ”Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” hurry up! One show only at The Palm Cabaret this coming Saturday, January 31, at 9 pm. ”Hedwig” is a politically incorrect, kick-ass, (four!) Tony Award-winning rock musical with two characters on stage, a live band right behind them, comprised of the best musicians in the city, fabulous hair, make-up, and intricate costumes. The two brilliant characters are Jordon Carnegie as Hedwig and Yoalli Guerrero as her husband, Yitzak. Did I mention cross-dressing?
The complicated, politically and emotionally tangled plot unfolds over the 90-minute production, in spoken word and song that will break your heart one minute and, the next, raise you so high you will fly.
Seriously, don’t miss this musical; it has been literally years in the making, and getting permission to perform Hedwig in Vallarta would have overwhelmed any normal person. I am so grateful that Jordon Carnegie did not give up and that, after a year’s absence, he is back onstage this weekend, reprising the tortured and very human heart and soul of Hedwig. I promise you, she will change your life, From Here.
