Crossing Fingers

It is so cold this morning, I can’t open my windows yet, and it’s nearly 8 am! Nice to be back with typical February weather, and I must say, I am looking forward to summer and some humidity – my cheeks crack from the dry air every time I smile!

I smiled a lot yesterday, starting with Scrabble. Played and won all four games against three different opponents. One of those days, when the draws were perfect.

No smiling at Bingo, however! Nada, nothing, not even close on raffle tickets. Nacho Daddy was packed, however, with over 3K going to the winner of the blackout. Lydia was funny as always, and it was great to see all the regs playing for the betterment of Vallarta’s dogs and kitties.

A thirty-minute nap saved me from a meltdown between Bingo and Angeloo’s first Dimash song at La Catrina Cantina. His Wednesday night show now runs from 8 to 9 pm, for which I am grateful. My lovely new friend, Anna Gurayevskaya, said of Angeloo, ”His music filled my soul with something magical.”

Dimash Qudaibergen, Angeloo’s main contributor to his repertoire last night, is from the same country as Anna – Kazakhstan – and when Angel announced ”Adagio,” Anna whispered to me that it was her favorite Dimash song.

This coming weekend, Angel is auditioning for the second time with the producers of America’s Got Talent via Zoom. Cross your fingers that he is accepted, and we can start raising funds for his trip to the United States to compete. Wouldn’t that be something?

From La CC, I walked the couple of blocks to a private condominium for Robert Ryan’s triumphant after party from his sold-out show that he will take to New York in September, ”Here’s to the Ladies.”

The party was well underway by the time I got there, to the magnificent rooftop, with pools, a Jacuzzi, and a fire pit. I missed the amazing hors d’ouevres created by co-sponsor Casa Karma, but there was cake and brownies from Pavlova Bakery! Both Robert Ryan and his wonderful Musical Director, Michael Ferreri, were delighted with the turnout at Act2PV and said the concert could not have been better across the board.

Speaking of one-show-only, there are still a few tickets to Kassiano Smith’s extravaganza at Teatro Vallarta tomorrow at 8 pm. All the colors and sounds of Kass’s native Jamaica blended with traditional Mexican favorites, performed by a full orchestra and a reggae band. Kassiano is also a songwriter, and intensely spiritual and kind.

Just before Kass’s ”Big Band and Reggae Classics,” Geo Uhrich takes the stage at La Catrina Cantina for the first time, for his show called ”Arte Puro.” Co-starring one of Vallarta’s finest flamenco guitarists, Eduardo ”Lalo” Leon, you can expect high-energy musical mashups that are impossible not to move to. Starting at 5 pm, you can easily listen to Geo’s fiery violin. Lalo’s smokin’ guitar and still make it to Teatro Vallarta for 8 o’clock, From Here.
