The Perfect Escape from Puerto Vallarta
Just two hours from the bustling beaches of Puerto Vallarta, Mascota and Talpa de Allende offer a serene escape into Mexico’s heartland. These towns, with their cobblestone streets, colonial architecture, and spiritual significance, provide the ideal setting for a culinary and cultural retreat. The experience is designed for travelers who want to go beyond the typical tourist attractions and immerse themselves in the authentic flavors, sights, and sounds of rural Mexico.
Day 1: Raicilla & Mascota
The adventure begins at 8:30 AM, departing from Puerto Vallarta and winding through the lush mountain landscapes toward the first stop—Raicilla del Ciervo MX, a local Raicilla distillery. Here, guests will tour the facility, learn about this traditional Mexican spirit, and indulge in a tasting paired with a barbecue feast.
Following the raicilla experience, guests will take a walking tour through Mascota, Chef Ventura’s hometown, to take in its historical sites, rustic charm, and spiritual heritage. This town, often called “La Esmeralda de la Sierra” (The Emerald of the Sierra), is known for its breathtaking landscapes and tranquil atmosphere.
After the tour, guests will check into a local hotel and have time to unwind before the culinary highlight of the evening—a multi-course dinner at Ventura Comer & Beber, the restaurant of Chef Ventura’s sister. For those looking to continue the night, a Raicilla bar hop is optional but highly encouraged.
Day 2: Exploring Talpa de Allende’s Charm
Day two begins with a delicious breakfast prepared by Chef Ventura’s aunt, Lourdes Cázares, who will treat guests to a meal rich in local flavors. Following breakfast, guests will take morning stroll through the charming town of Talpa de Allende, famous for its religious pilgrimages and colonial architecture.
The tour culminates with lunch, prepared by Chef Ventura’s sister, Mauric Ventura, showcasing a beautiful family collaboration that highlights their culinary expertise and passion. Guests will begin the scenic journey back to Puerto Vallarta, returning around 1:30 PM.
