Lady Zen is known for their rich and dynamic performances that blend genres like blues, cabaret, classical, funk, jazz, soul, and the spoken word. Known for their powerful voice and compelling storytelling, Lady Zen captivates audiences with deeply personal and universal themes drawn from their life journey. From being adopted by Christian missionaries and facing the challenges of coming out as gay, to becoming an internationally celebrated performer, Lady Zen’s artistry is a testament to resilience and authenticity. Their unique blend of vocal prowess and lyrical fusion poetry has earned them a reputation as a one-of-a-kind performer who pushes the boundaries of traditional music genres.
Lady Zen, born Alzenira Santos Amaral Quezada in Brazil, has transformed their life story into art, creating a space for queer narratives in the music world. A TEDx talk alum, Fulbright Scholar in Opera Performance, and published author, Lady Zen has showcased their talents on stages across the globe, from London to San Francisco. Currently based in Mexico, they are collaborating on projects for the Marin Shakespeare Company and touring with their Royal Court Band throughout vibrant cities like Mexico City, Queretaro, and Guadalajara. Lady Zen’s shows are not just performances; they are a celebration of identity, resilience, and the power of music to connect us all.
