Puerto Vallarta Double Anniversary
In 2025, Puerto Vallarta marks 107 years as a municipality and 57 years as an official city.
It was on May 31, 1918, that the Jalisco State Congress passed the decree elevating the former Las Peñas county to municipal status, officially renaming it Puerto Vallarta. Half a century later, with significant infrastructure and well-established air and land connections, the destination was granted city status as the City of Puerto Vallarta.
To honor these important milestones, the city will host a series of free public events on May 31 at some of its most iconic landmarks, including the Los Arcos del Malecón Amphitheater, the Main Square, and the Malecón Lighthouse Esplanade.
This beloved celebration traditionally ends with a massive anniversary cake and a fireworks display, bringing the community together in festive spirit.
