The New 20s
Inspired by the golden era of the 1920s.
It all unfolds on Friday the 13th of September 1924, in a hotel nestled in New York City. By twists of fate, all the characters find themselves staying in the same place, unable to travel due to the inclement weather. The hotel offers a dinner, and throughout the day, a series of events transpire that will make you laugh, sing, cry, reminisce, and savor every moment of life.
Following the aftermath of World War I, female empowerment ushered in an era of cinema, cabaret, theater, jazz music, the Charleston dance, magazines, and fashion.
Drawing inspiration from 10 artists who lived during that time: Charles Chaplin, Coco Chanel, Louise Broke, Clara Bow, Josephine Baker, Anita Berber, Louis Armstrong, Greta Garbo, Al Capone, and Pablo Picasso. With songs from contemporary artists such as Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Beyoncé, and more, we bring you “The New 20s,” a celebration of a century’s passage.
Original concept, choreography, direction, and production by Beto Sempere.
