Less Men; Less Time
Round Two in the quest to find a suitable hunk to represent Vallarta for the coming year was completed yesterday afternoon at Coco Cabaret. We did our part, ogled, cheered for our faves, clapped, screamed between mouthfuls of popcorn, and drank several martinis in an hour. It’s the enormous stress.
Waleska promoted her Madonna Tribute, and Branden and James performed a lovely ”Roxanne” with voice and cello. Drag icon Sherry Vine shared a song as well.
The ten gorgeous guys strutted and pranced in various stages of undress. They haven’t actually had anything to DO onstage. No tricky questions to determine IQ or their stance on the Middle Eastern or other crises worldwide. All they have to be is in the moment. They have all brought their personal fan base and cheerleaders to Coco, and all of them are going home without their voices. Yipes, what a racket! But it’s a lot of fun, and the scenery is quite lovely.
Next week is the finals; I have my favorite(s), and I’ll let you know next week who won and see if I am correct in picking the winner two years in a row.
My friend from Mazatlan, ”El Tenor del Norte,” Jorge Echegaray, wrote me last night to tell me about a new business in town, when their inaugural concert will be, and where. Are you ready for this – The Vallarta Opera Company! VOC is run by Jorge and local baritone Natael Bañuelos. They plan to present opera concerts throughout the coming year, inviting guest singers from across Mexico to Vallarta.
I don’t have a great deal of information yet, but this fledgling company wants to bring opera to Vallarta. I can’t tell you how happy that makes me!!! Besides comedy, Vallarta is also missing pure classical music. We have bits and pieces, of course, but to have an Opera Company? I am thrilled.
Stay tuned for updates as I get them, but first… put March 08 into your calendar, 6 pm, at Green Place Restaurant in 5 de diciembre. Tickets are 500 pesos. I know ”What a Drag” is on the same night, but doing both is possible. Very, very exciting news.
Tomorrow is Wicked Wednesday, which means I will not get a chance for a siesta. Qulture kicks off my day with Scrabble at 12:30. I heard a rumour that Chicago Producer Sharon Gerber Scherer might come out to play. A report on the full-contact games on Thursday! Right after that is Bingo at Nacho Daddy for the Colina Spay and Neuter Clinic. That starts at 4 pm. Then to La Catrina Cantina to listen to Angeloo recreate the genius of Kazakhstani native Dimash, at 8 pm, followed by a private party.
On Thursday, I am having lunch with an old dear friend who just happens to be a famous movie star. It has been years since we have had a chance to share a table, so I am looking forward to that with all my heart.
The Peacock Gala is this weekend at the Vallarta Botanical Garden; it will be sensational! Hope to see you there, From Here.
