Merry Christmas, Again, Jamie
There are lots of people who love Christmas, and then there’s Jamie Alexander. We could call it an obsession; I don’t think Jamie would mind. He decorates any place that will let him loose and gives him free rein(deer). Couldn’t help it. So, Jamie’s husband Josh contacted me and invited me to a surprise party at Coco Cabaret on New Year’s Day and swore me to secrecy. The gathering was a quickie fundraiser for the babies at RISE Children’s Shelter. Admission was diaper paraphernalia that was collected by Billy and Lisa, RISE’s staunch supporters.
This was the invitation: “You’re Invited to a Surprise Christmas Show! Please join us on January 1st as we celebrate Jamie with a very special surprise Christmas show. Jamie’s love for Christmas is only matched by his passion for spreading joy, kindness, and connection wherever he goes. His unwavering support of the community—especially the theatre—has uplifted countless artists and brought magic to so many lives. Let’s come together to honor his generosity, his spirit, and the love he so freely gives to others, with a night filled with music, laughter, and holiday magic.”
And we did.
The divine Miss Conception opened the show and served mightily as host for the evening. Jamie had no idea the show was for him until a video unrolled of Joshua and Mauricio wishing him a Merry Christmas again and sharing their great love for him. Not a dry eye in the house, and then the bloopers followed – hilarious and brought us back, celebrating Jamie and Christmas, an entire week later, all over again.
The entertainers had kind and loving words for Jamie, and Miss Conception performed the Twelve Drinks of Christmas, which was Jamie’s favorite number from years ago in Toronto. It was outrageously funny, so much so that I didn’t get a single photo; I was fascinated by watching Miss C get pissed as a nit on stage. Such an actor!
So, darling Jamie, Merry Christmas once again, enjoy opening all your presents tomorrow on Three Kings Day. I hope you score the baby Jesus in the Rosca so that you can have another, final Christmas party next month! You are deeply loved, my friend.
The First Saturday of every month is always a fiesta at Arte Vallarta Museo, and add the first one of 2026, and there’s even more to celebrate. Not a chair was to be found empty. With soft jazz stylings in the background, I was able to introduce Deborah Cole, a brilliant photographer about to publish her fourth book, to more authors in the city, and our midst, Sandra Bradley, Jane Downs, and newly returned Elena Hiatt Houlihan, and my dear friend who writes for a living, Bill Makley. It was a heady mix! Lots of talk of publishing houses in three countries; a great deal of pertinent information to share.
Gouda Gabor and Mark Hartman debut their new show, “Charcuterie Broad,” at Nacho Daddy tonight at 7:30, with guest star Seth Sikes. See you there, From Here.
