Unapologetic Queer Energy at Act2PV’s ‘Nocturnal Omissions’
Prepare for an electrifying evening of laughter, music, and unapologetic queer energy as Nocturnal Omissions makes its debut at Act2PV’s Casa Karma Red Room Cabaret on Friday, January 31. Running every Tuesday and Friday at 9:30 PM in February, this bold cabaret show is the perfect way to spice up your nightlife in Puerto Vallarta.
Nocturnal Omissions stars real-life couple Jonah Wheeler and John Coons, who bring their undeniable chemistry and raw talent to the stage. Jonah, an adult entertainer turned music director, and John, a powerhouse singer-songwriter, weave a tapestry of humor, emotion, and dynamic musicality. Originally conceived in the vibrant nightlife of New York City, this cabaret blends unhinged mashups, hilarious original songs, and candid moments that explore the quirks of modern queer life.
Jonah explains, “The show comes from two places. On a practical level, it grew out of our first visit to Puerto Vallarta in 2023, where we put together a show at Incanto. We wanted to bring something more explicitly gay, something that truly featured both of us. On an emotional level, it’s a response to another show we created, BLEAK. While BLEAK is smart, dark, and introspective, Nocturnal Omissions is a celebration of being dumb and horny.”
The duo’s contrasting styles—Jonah’s practical and direct nature paired with John’s sparkling wit and nuanced creativity—fuel the show’s unique charm. From TV theme song mashups to original tunes tackling topics like love and the absurdities of social media, the evening promises to be as unpredictable as it is entertaining. One of their most memorable original pieces dives into the concept of feeling “loved” by the advertising algorithms on your phone. “We started working on that song in 2021,” Jonah shares. “It wasn’t until years later that the missing pieces came together—better articulating the ‘gifts’ the algorithm gives in exchange for your data, a bridge parodying the hopeful scores of musicals like ‘Wicked,’ and a streamlined intro to set the stage. Now it’s one of the most through-composed pieces we’ve done, tailored to John’s voice. It’s luscious, unsettling, and unexpectedly comical.”

Audiences can expect a night full of bold humor, sharp looks, and musical surprises. The chemistry between Jonah and John is palpable, and their playful banter creates an atmosphere that is both intimate and wildly entertaining. Whether through their dynamic mashups of Madonna and Phantom of the Opera or their original songs that dive headfirst into the hilarity of modern queer experiences, Nocturnal Omissions is a celebration of love, lust, and laughter.
John adds, “There’s a lot of preparation that goes into a show like this. It starts with building the structure—finding the right mix of songs, banter, and an overall arc. Then we run it until it’s solid enough that I can comfortably go off script if the moment calls for it. Of course, there’s also the pre-show routine—water, sleep, no alcohol—and when it’s time to perform, the heels do a lot to get me into character. There’s no upper like heels.”
The charm of Nocturnal Omissions also lies in its authenticity. The show feels deeply personal, yet it resonates universally with audiences of all backgrounds. It’s a rare feat to balance humor and heart so seamlessly, but Jonah and John manage it effortlessly. The audience is invited not just to laugh but also to connect with the performers on a deeper level, as the duo lays bare their quirks, desires, and dreams on stage.
Act2PV, the largest entertainment venue in Puerto Vallarta, provides the perfect stage for this dynamic duo. Recognized as the #1 entertainment venue on TripAdvisor, Act2PV features three theaters and a packed schedule of four to six shows nightly during high season. Within this vibrant hub, the Casa Karma Red Room Cabaret stands out as an intimate space designed for unforgettable performances. Known for its close interaction between performers and the audience, the Red Room creates a personal, cabaret-style atmosphere that makes every night special.

The return to Puerto Vallarta holds special meaning for Jonah and John. “We performed here once before and fell in love with the community,” John says. “There’s such a great culture of performers supporting each other here. It’s like show-and-tell: ‘Who are you, and what are you bringing to the table?’ And the audiences are incredible—they’re ready to laugh and have a good time. Every night feels like it could be one for the books.”
Audiences in Puerto Vallarta are in for a treat as Nocturnal Omissions offers an experience that goes beyond the typical cabaret show. It’s a rare blend of high-energy entertainment and thoughtful artistry that promises to leave a lasting impression. The mix of sharp wit, musical excellence, and candid moments makes for an evening that’s as hilarious as it is heartfelt.
