Experience the Haunting Beauty of ‘La Llorona’
Immerse yourself in an evening of art, dance, and mysticism as Enel Ram brings her captivating show, La Llorona, to La Catrina Cantina in Puerto Vallarta. Taking place on November 20th at 6:30 PM, the performance promises an enchanting fusion of contemporary and traditional Mexican artistry, beckoning audiences into the ethereal world of Mexico’s most haunting legend.
The story of La Llorona, the “weeping woman” eternally mourning her lost children, holds a powerful place in Mexican folklore. Enel describes her inspiration for the show as rooted in the multifaceted symbolism of La Llorona: “The figure of La Llorona has so much relevance in our culture… it’s both terrifying and deeply sad, reflecting a society that is both patriarchal and matriarchal, a contradiction that weaves through our identity as mestizos,” she reflects. “I wanted to explore these feelings and contradictions in a way that celebrates the fusion of cultures and creates something new.”
Enel will lead the audience through this haunting tale with her powerful vocals and theatrical presence. Her performances draw upon her years of experience as a singer, dancer, and actress—skills that have been honed since her early stage days in the opera Tosca and refined under the mentorship of industry icons like Spanish theater director Xavier Ribes and opera singer Yolanda Cabrera.
This rendition of La Llorona follows its successful debut at Casa Karma, where it received widespread acclaim. The new performance at La Catrina Cantina promises even more breathtaking elements, including a mesmerizing contortion act by a Cirque du Soleil artist and a Glow Poi show that will leave audiences spellbound.
Reflecting on her favorite parts of the show, Enel says, “La Calaca and Amor Eterno resonate deeply with the audience. It’s like we’re all vibrating with the same energy, sharing a moment of admiration and joy together.” Her artistic process combines diverse Mexican traditions and musical styles, seeking to retain the folklore essence of each piece while bringing her unique voice and style into the performance.
Producer Gloria Fiona speaks to the powerful partnership she’s developed with Enel through this production: “Working with Enel has been incredibly enriching. She is an intelligent and organized artist, and we are learning and advancing together. Beyond the technical aspects, there’s been a deep sense of mutual growth—our collaboration has become a journey of shared experiences and emotional support.”
