What are popular neighborhoods in Puerto Vallarta?
Puerto Vallarta is full of vibrant colonias (neighborhoods), each with its own character and community vibe. Some of the most popular or notable colonias include:
1. Emiliano Zapata (also known as Zona Romántica)
This is the heart of Vallarta’s LGBTQ+ nightlife, arts scene, and tourism. It’s walkable, full of restaurants, bars, galleries, and close to Los Muertos Beach.
2. 5 de Diciembre
Just north of downtown, this colonia has a more local feel while still being close to the action. It’s popular with expats and long-term visitors, and you’ll find a mix of traditional and modern living.
3. El Centro (Downtown)
The historic center with cobblestone streets, the iconic Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, and access to the Malecón. Lots of restaurants, shops, and cultural spots.
4. Marina Vallarta
Upscale and quieter, this area includes a golf course, luxury condos, and a marina with yachts, restaurants, and shops. It’s also close to the airport.
5. Versalles
A trendy and rapidly growing neighborhood with an exciting food scene. It’s become a hotspot for new restaurants, cafes, and boutique living.
6. Fluvial Vallarta
A modern, family-friendly area with wide streets, parks, and shopping centers. It’s mostly residential and popular with locals and younger families.
7. Pitillal
A large, mostly local colonia east of the city center. It’s a bustling area with markets, shops, and more affordable housing.
8. Conchas Chinas
An upscale hillside neighborhood south of the Romantic Zone with luxury villas and stunning ocean views. It’s peaceful and scenic.
