The Trifecta
I hope the Easter Bunny was good to everyone. Today’s missive is all about winning. It’s something most of us strive to do in every detail of our lives, and, now and again, we get a day when we can do no wrong across the board. They are rare, and when they happen, it’s good to join your own hands patting yourself on your own back.
Last Wednesday, I complained about the day being so busy that I would not get a nap. Three hours of Tournament Scrabble left me holding/wearing the crown in three straight games. Next stop was Nacho Daddy, where I won a bingo game and received a gift certificate from Langostinos to share with my sister Patrice next month. Directly after that, Lydia Damato, our fearless bingo caller and nominee for Outstanding Volunteer at the We Are Puerto Vallarta Awards (she won!), and I raced the couple of blocks to the ceremony at Coco Cabaret.
Lots of nominees gathered outside the doors waiting to go in. The Third Annual Gala announced more than 30 winners but handed out only a few awards at Coco; the rest were given later to the appropriate winners at El Granero, where the show was simulcast. A well-thought-out production, complete with entertainment, kept the nominees happily occupied while we waited for our categories to be announced.
Over 170,000 votes were cast – a record for the event imagined five years ago and hosted each year by Jamie Alexander, who works at PVRPV, Vallarta’s largest rental agency. It was the company’s client feedback that not only gave Jamie the idea to create the awards but also provided the fertile ground for deciding whom and which businesses to honor.
Nearly 50 awards were given, from the best bakery (Artisan) to the favorite bartender, the late Manuel Betancourt from La Catrina Cantina.
Eva Jimenez co-hosted with Jamie and helped me and my fabrics up the stage steps to collect a surprise ”Outstanding Individual for Contributions to the Community.” I am honored and will continue to write about Puerto Vallarta with love.
I did another half-hour Neurofeedback session with Stan Wagner last week, with highly encouraging results. After the first session, I achieved about 50% improvement in the feeling in my feet, so, going into Session Two, I deliberately intended to improve on that. And I did! By about 15%, sooooo, I have around 65% more feeling in my feet after only two sessions. Both Stan and I are excited about the possibility that Neurofeedback can reduce falls among people with neuropathy who can’t feel where their feet are. We will continue the experiment when my sister Patrice arrives next month; her feet are worse than mine!
The First Saturday of the Month for Arte Vallarta Museo again took place at the sister venue up on Pilitas. We crowded into the Speakeasy with Lydia Damato, creating high-test cocktails (Georgia Darehshori can attest!), and the entertainment was Canadian guitarist Kyler Mackenzie, whom I recently heard at Herschel Weisfeld’s birthday bash.
My amazing herbalist, Ricardo Mazcal, is offering 15% off his miracle Maz-Mix this week at his storefront on the Isla Cuale. Invented by his great-grandmother to ease starvation during the Dust Bowl years in Mexico, Ricardo has improved the formula that I swear has been keeping me alive and thriving for over a decade, From Here.
