What A Drag: A Night of Laughter, Glamour, and Giving Back
Puerto Vallarta is gearing up for one of its most entertaining and heartwarming events of the year: What A Drag 2025. This annual charity drag show, taking place on Sunday, March 9 at 8 PM at Teatro Vallarta, brings together humor, music, and dazzling performances to support an essential cause. More than just an evening of entertainment, What A Drag is a community-driven event that raises crucial funds for Casa Esperanza, a domestic violence shelter providing a safe haven for women and children escaping abuse.
A Show Like No Other
The highlight of What A Drag is its one-of-a-kind performances by straight men who embrace the glitz, glamour, and artistry of drag to compete for the coveted title of Miss What A Drag. Each contestant, paired with an experienced “Fairy Drag Mother,” undergoes a stunning transformation—complete with extravagant costumes, expert makeup, and plenty of sass. But beyond the fun, the event serves a deeper purpose: spreading awareness and generating financial support for Casa Esperanza and its life-changing mission.
This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever, with an exciting circus-themed twist. Contestants will not only showcase their best drag personas but also channel the spirit of the big top—expect high-energy performances, fabulous costumes, and jaw-dropping surprises.

Stepping into the world of drag for charity is both an exciting and eye-opening experience, as this year’s What A Drag contestants have discovered.
Timothy Healy, one of this year’s participants, shared his enthusiasm about joining the event. “When approached by Tammy Prust at Nacho Daddy to be a part of What A Drag, I was honestly flattered and said yes immediately.” Though he has long admired drag culture, preparing for the performance has given him a newfound respect for the art form. “Now knowing a bit more about what it takes to put on a great show, including learning to walk on six-inch heels, my appreciation for drag performers has increased immensely!”
Gibrán Alejandro López Salazar echoed a similar sentiment, admitting that he was initially surprised to be asked. “I was surprised that they asked me, among probably several options of straight talents, to do drag for the first time. But I accepted because of the cause—we are there for all those who are victims of domestic violence. Supporting this cause while performing in drag and singing on stage will be an incredible experience.”
Reflecting on what it takes to embody a drag persona, he added, “Like anything, it takes effort and discipline. Preparing a strong performance and crafting an excellent drag image is a lot of work—both physically and mentally. I totally admire all the great drag talent and artists out there.”
Both contestants are embracing the challenge with enthusiasm, proving that drag is more than just makeup and wigs—it’s an art form that requires skill, confidence, and heart.
The Cause: Casa Esperanza Women’s Shelter
Casa Esperanza, operated by Compassion for the Family Inc., provides comprehensive care to survivors of domestic violence. As a registered nonprofit, the organization offers emergency shelter, food, counseling, childcare, job training, and life-skills programs. The goal is not just to provide temporary refuge but to help women and children rebuild their lives, free from violence and fear.
With 60% of women in Mexico experiencing some form of abuse in their lifetime, Casa Esperanza faces an ongoing need for resources. The shelter is always at full capacity, and rising costs have made funding even more critical. Events like What A Drag help bridge the financial gap, ensuring that these vital services continue to be available.
