Who Will Be the Next PV Superstar?

The Grand Finale of So You Think You Can RISE? will be the ultimate showdown, bringing together the top performers from this season’s live auditions. On Sunday, February 23 at 7 PM, Teatro Vallarta will host an evening filled with excitement, talent, and heartfelt moments as the finalists compete for the title of PV Superstar. Winners will not only take home cash prizes but also secure a performance spot at one of Puerto Vallarta’s top entertainment venues.

This year’s event will be hosted by Nacho Granados and Jessy Ruiz, who are sure to keep the energy high throughout the evening. Adding to the excitement, an exclusive VIP pre-show will be hosted by last year’s runner-up, Sargento Dan, giving VIP guests a special experience before the main event. VIP admission includes an early entrance of one hour, a free welcome drink, and a “treat for your seat” provided by local cafes, restaurants, and caterers. Last year’s winner, Angeloo, will also return to the stage for a special performance, celebrating his journey and inspiring this year’s contestants.

The competition this year has been intense, with four winners from each live audition advancing to the Grand Finale. The finalists include Danza Cerro, a traditional Mexican dance troupe; Natalia Juliet Morales Larson, a pianist; F91, a contemporary dance group; Nicolas Lara, an accordionist; and vocalists Warren Wesley Weir, Vinzente Canas, Mitch Kusher, and Jason Mathis. Additionally, thanks to the Golden Buzzer, Gibran Torres Alvarez, a talented pianist, has been given a second chance to compete in the finale.

These contestants have been coached by some of Puerto Vallarta’s top celebrities, including Maru Prado Conti, Kevin Anthony, Roy Cruz, Luis Villanueva, Kimberly LaRue, Tromba Vetusta, Steven Retchless, and Derek Carkner. Their mentorship has played a crucial role in preparing the finalists for their big moment on stage.

Lisa Manoogian, Fundraising Coordinator for RISE (Refugio Infantantil Santa Esperanza), expressed her excitement about this year’s event. “I’m most excited to see how our contestants have grown. Their passion and dedication shine through, not just in their performances but in their commitment to supporting the children of RISE. The energy in the room, the connection between performers and audience, and the collective spirit of giving back always create an unforgettable night. I can’t wait to see it all come together and celebrate the amazing impact we’re making as a community.”

This is the second time in four years that the competition has used the Golden Buzzer, an element that adds a layer of surprise and recognition for outstanding talent. “The Golden Buzzer is our way of recognizing a contestant whose unique talent, passion, or potential truly stood out, even if they weren’t selected during the live auditions,” Lisa explained. “Sometimes a performance leaves a lasting impression that deserves a second chance, and the Golden Buzzer ensures that exceptional talent doesn’t go unnoticed.”

For many of the contestants, this competition has been life-changing. Nicolas Lara, one of the finalists, shared his thoughts on the experience. “I am inspired by the fact that many people will know me for participating in the contest, and I am challenged to know that there are so many people in this artistic field. It makes me think that if I want to become a great artist, I must continue fighting for it. This contest tests me to see how far I can go.”

Warren Wesley Weir, another finalist, reflected on his journey to the stage. “Lisa from RISE came to my coffee bar to put up a poster for the competition, and my bartender pushed me every day, saying, ‘You can do it! You have to do it.'” He also emphasized the importance of experience: “I love being on stage or backstage—I really feel it’s where I belong. I used to study theatre in school, and it was where I felt the most welcomed as a different kid. As for the judges, you have to forget they’re there—not an easy thing to do.”

Sargento Dan, last year’s runner-up and this year’s pre-show host, spoke about the impact of the competition on his career. “My whole career has all to do with RISE. It put me in the spotlight and connected me with a lot of people, including my coaches Jan and Rob.”

He also offered advice for this year’s contestants: “This competition is about growth. Don’t be afraid to take risks and push yourself beyond what you think you can do. Whether you win or not, the experience and connections you gain are invaluable.”

The “So You Think You Can Rise?” competition is more than just a talent show; it’s a major fundraising event for the RISE Children’s Shelter. With annual operating costs of 4 million pesos, RISE depends on events like this to continue providing essential care, education, and a safe environment for children in need. Last year in February, RISE had 14 children—now they have 38, including 10 under 18 months. Your support is needed now more than ever.

“Last year, we raised 50% of our financial needs through this event alone,” Lisa shared. “The funds from ticket sales, sponsorships, and donations go directly toward daily meals, medical care, education, and everything else required to ensure these children thrive.”

RISE has also built strong relationships within the community through this competition. “We have incredible sponsors who support us in many ways beyond just financial contributions,” Lisa said. “For example, Los Muertos Brewing held a street party and donated the funds to RISE, along with supporting us in our golf tournaments and providing pizza for the kids throughout the year. LIX Homemade Ice Cream donates ice cream year-round. Many performers and venues go above and beyond, like Mama Tits and Lady Gaga shows running commercials for RISE, Hedda Lettuce hosting 50-50 raffles at Bingo, and Gouda Gabor raising money at Open Mic nights. The venues are also super generous, with Coco Cabaret providing the space for auditions free of charge and Nacho Daddy offering a workshop space.”

This year, 41 sponsors have helped make the competition possible, including Title Sponsor PVRPV and Gold Sponsors LIX Homemade Ice Cream and Let’s Pho Vietnamese Kitchen. Their support, along with the dedication of volunteers and performers, ensures that the event continues to grow and make a meaningful impact.

The So You Think You Can RISE? Grand Finale at Teatro Vallarta is set to be an unforgettable night, filled with inspiring performances and a shared commitment to supporting RISE. Whether you are cheering from the audience or taking center stage, this event is a testament to the power of community, talent, and giving back.
